Description


The ADR - Hazardous Chemicals course provides professional drivers with the knowledge and certification required to transport dangerous goods by road in accordance with the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR).

Combining classroom-based learning with practical exercises, delegates will develop a thorough understanding of ADR regulations, hazard identification, emergency procedures and the safe transport of hazardous materials. The course is suitable for both new and existing ADR drivers requiring either initial certification or renewal of an existing ADR Driver Training Certificate.

Training is delivered at an approved training centre by qualified instructors and includes the required theoretical instruction, practical exercises and examinations relevant to the ADR modules selected.

Assessment

Delegates complete the required SQA-approved examinations for the ADR modules selected. Successful completion of all required examinations is necessary to obtain or renew an ADR Driver Training Certificate.


Certification

Upon successful completion of the required examinations, delegates will be awarded an ADR Driver Training Certificate covering the modules and dangerous goods classes successfully achieved. ADR Driver Training Certificates are valid for five years. Drivers renewing their qualification must complete refresher training and the required examinations before their current certificate expires.


Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for the initial ADR course. Delegates should hold a valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicles they intend to operate and possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and examinations.

Drivers attending a refresher course must complete the required training and examinations before the expiry of their current ADR Driver Training Certificate to maintain continuous certification.


Course Duration

Course duration will vary depending on the ADR modules, dangerous goods classes and specialisations required. Initial and refresher courses are available, with training programmes tailored to meet individual driver and employer requirements.
