The Asbestos Awareness course provides learners with the knowledge required to recognise the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), understand the risks associated with asbestos exposure, and work safely in accordance with current health and safety legislation.

Combining classroom-based learning with practical examples and case studies, delegates will develop an understanding of the properties of asbestos, where it may be found, the health risks associated with exposure, and the procedures to follow if asbestos is suspected or disturbed. The course is intended to raise awareness and help prevent accidental exposure - it does not train delegates to intentionally work with or remove asbestos-containing materials.

Training is delivered in line with the UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard, ensuring a structured, competence-based approach that provides delegates with the knowledge required to recognise asbestos hazards and take appropriate action in the workplace.

• Construction, maintenance and refurbishment workers.
• Tradespeople including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, decorators and engineers.
• Property maintenance and facilities management personnel.
• Supervisors and managers responsible for overseeing maintenance or construction activities.
• Anyone whose work may bring them into contact with asbestos-containing materials.

Assessment

Delegates are assessed throughout the course by knowledge-based questioning to confirm their understanding of asbestos hazards, relevant legislation and safe working practices. Assessment is conducted against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Accredited Certificate, demonstrating that they have successfully achieved the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UKRS Course Standard.

Please note: This is an asbestos awareness course only. Successful completion does not qualify delegates to intentionally work with, remove, repair, encapsulate or otherwise disturb asbestos-containing materials. Additional task-specific or licensed asbestos training is required where work with asbestos is permitted by law.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Delegates should possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and assessment.

Course duration will vary depending on the number of delegates attending and organisational requirements. Training is designed to provide delegates with the knowledge and awareness necessary to recognise asbestos hazards and work safely without disturbing asbestos-containing materials.
