The First Aid at Work (2 Day Refresher) course provides qualified workplace first aiders with the opportunity to refresh and update their knowledge and practical skills, ensuring they remain confident and competent in responding to workplace medical emergencies.

Combining classroom-based learning with realistic practical exercises, delegates will revisit current first aid procedures, reinforce essential life-saving skills and update their knowledge in line with current first aid guidance. Practical scenarios throughout the course enable delegates to refresh their competence in assessing casualties, managing emergencies and providing effective first aid until professional medical assistance arrives.

This course is intended for delegates who currently hold a valid First Aid at Work certificate and wish to renew their qualification before it expires.

• Control of severe bleeding.

• Management of fractures, sprains and soft tissue injuries.
• Burns, scalds and eye injuries.

• Incident recording and post-incident procedures.
• Updates to current first aid guidance and best practice.

Practical Training

• Performing adult CPR.
• Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
• Managing unconscious casualties and the recovery position.
• Treating choking emergencies.
• Controlling severe bleeding using appropriate dressings.
• Managing fractures and other common workplace injuries.
• Participating in realistic emergency first aid scenarios.
• Refreshing practical casualty assessment and treatment skills.

Assessment

Delegates are assessed throughout the course through practical observation, simulated casualty scenarios and instructor questioning to confirm their knowledge, understanding and practical competence.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, delegates will receive a First Aid at Work (2 Day Refresher) Certificate issued through an approved first aid certification body, extending the validity of their workplace first aid qualification.

Entry Requirements

Delegates must hold a current, valid First Aid at Work certificate that has not expired. Delegates should also be physically capable of participating in practical first aid activities, including kneeling on the floor to perform CPR, and possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and assessment.

This course is typically delivered over two days, although delivery arrangements may vary depending on organisational requirements.
