Description

This training course aims to give trainees the knowledge, understanding and basic skills required for the safe operation of pedestrian-operated tow tractors and trailers. It introduces trainees to manoeuvring the equipment with single and multiple trailers, travelling both laden and unladen, and carrying out towing and positioning operations safely and efficiently within the workplace. Trainees will cover daily pre-use inspections, safe coupling and uncoupling procedures, load distribution, and the hazards and risks associated with pedestrian tow tractor operations, including trailer swing, braking distances, visibility, and operating in close proximity to pedestrians and other workplace transport. The course also includes safe systems of work and compliance with relevant health and safety legislation. The length of training may vary depending on the objectives covered, the ratio of trainee to instructor, and the ability and previous experience of the trainees. The delivery of training includes a combination of theoretical instruction and practical exercises.
