Description
The Powered Pole Pruner - Refresher course enables experienced operators to refresh and update their knowledge and practical skills in the safe use of powered pole pruners in accordance with current industry best practice and relevant health and safety legislation.
Combining classroom-based learning with extensive practical training, delegates will revisit safe working practices, equipment inspection, pruning techniques, hazard identification and routine operator maintenance. The course reinforces correct operating procedures, promotes safe pruning from ground level and provides an opportunity to review any changes to legislation, industry guidance and best practice since previous training.
Training is delivered in line with the UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard, ensuring a structured, competence-based refresher programme that reinforces theoretical knowledge and practical competence in realistic working conditions.

Practical Training
- Carrying out pre-use inspections and safety checks.

- Maintaining safe working positions and exclusion zones.
- Carrying out routine operator maintenance and cleaning.
- Safe shutdown and storage procedures.
Assessment
Delegates are assessed throughout the course through practical observation and instructor questioning to confirm their continued knowledge, understanding and practical competence. Assessment is conducted against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Accredited Certificate, demonstrating that they have successfully refreshed their knowledge and achieved the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UKRS Course Standard.
Entry Requirements
Delegates should have previously completed powered pole pruner training or be able to demonstrate equivalent practical experience. They should be physically capable of safely operating a powered pole pruner and possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and assessment.
Course Duration
Course duration will vary depending on delegates' previous experience, the number of delegates attending and organisational requirements. Training is designed to refresh existing knowledge, reinforce safe working practices and maintain practical competence in the safe use of powered pole pruners.
