Description
The Workplace Transport Traffic Marshall S2 course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely control and coordinate workplace vehicle movements within the AITT S2 category, in accordance with current health and safety legislation, recognised industry best practice and the relevant AITT training standard.
Combining theoretical instruction with practical training, delegates will develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to identify workplace transport hazards, establish safe vehicle movement areas, maintain effective communication with drivers and use recognised signals to guide and manoeuvre vehicles safely whilst minimising risks to themselves, drivers, pedestrians, other personnel, vehicles and property.
Training is delivered in accordance with the relevant AITT training category, ensuring a structured, competence-based programme combining theoretical knowledge with practical workplace application. Training may be adapted according to the delegate's previous experience and training needs.

- Maintaining suitable visibility and communication throughout a manoeuvre.
- Hazards associated with loading areas, entrances, exits and confined spaces.
- Managing interactions with pedestrians and other workplace traffic.
- Procedures where visual contact or communication with the driver is lost.
- Responding to changing conditions and unsafe situations.
- Safe completion of vehicle manoeuvres.
Practical Training
- Assessing the workplace vehicle movement area.
- Identifying hazards and establishing suitable control measures.
- Selecting and maintaining a safe marshalling position.
- Establishing effective communication with the driver.
- Demonstrating recognised hand signals.
- Directing vehicles forwards and in reverse.
- Guiding vehicles through turns and restricted areas.
- Maintaining appropriate visibility and safe separation from the vehicle.
- Monitoring pedestrians, other vehicles and surrounding hazards.
- Directing vehicles into designated loading, unloading or parking positions.
- Stopping a manoeuvre where communication or safe conditions cannot be maintained.
- Responding appropriately to changing or unsafe situations.
- Safely completing and terminating the marshalling operation.
Assessment
Delegates are assessed through theoretical knowledge testing and practical assessment to confirm that they have achieved the knowledge, understanding and practical competence required to safely undertake workplace transport traffic marshalling duties.
Assessment is conducted in accordance with the relevant AITT training standard.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the training and associated assessment, delegates will receive an AITT Certificate for the relevant S2 Workplace Transport Traffic Marshall category.
Entry Requirements
No previous traffic marshalling experience is required.
Delegates should be physically capable of safely undertaking the practical activities and possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training, communicate effectively with vehicle operators and complete the assessment.
Course Duration
Course duration will vary depending on delegates' previous experience, the number of delegates attending and the training needs identified.
Sufficient time will be allowed for theoretical instruction, practical training and assessment, with the duration and delegate ratios determined in accordance with the relevant AITT training standard.
