Description
This course is designed for employees who require an understanding of disability, accessibility and the importance of creating an inclusive and respectful workplace for people with disabilities. The course introduces different forms and models of disability, including visible and non-visible disabilities, and considers the physical, communication, attitudinal, technological and organisational barriers that can affect accessibility and participation. It explores common misconceptions and stereotypes and considers how workplace practices and attitudes can contribute to or remove barriers. The course also considers disability discrimination, relevant UK equality requirements and organisational responsibilities for providing equal opportunities and making reasonable workplace adjustments. Learners explore their own responsibilities for inclusive behaviour, including respectful communication, appropriate language, respecting privacy, recognising individual accessibility needs and offering support appropriately.
