Description

This course is designed for employees and managers who require an increased awareness of domestic violence and abuse, including how it may affect individuals within and outside the workplace and how to respond appropriately where abuse is known or suspected. The course introduces the nature and different forms of domestic violence and abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional, verbal and financial abuse, neglect, restraint, stalking and image-based abuse. It explores factors that may contribute to abusive behaviour, potential indicators that a person may be experiencing abuse and the physical, psychological, emotional and social effects that domestic violence can have on victims and others affected by it. Learners consider how domestic violence may affect the workplace, including employee wellbeing, attendance, productivity and working relationships. The course covers appropriate responses to disclosures or suspected abuse, listening and responding sensitively, respecting an individual`s decisions, maintaining personal safety, accessing appropriate support and emergency services, and avoiding actions that could place the victim or others at further risk. It also considers the role of employers and individuals in promoting respectful workplace cultures, providing appropriate support, raising awareness and contributing to the prevention of domestic violence and abuse.
