The Fire Extinguisher Awareness and Safe Use course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to recognise fire hazards, understand the principles of fire safety and safely select and use portable fire extinguishers in accordance with current health and safety legislation and industry best practice.

Combining classroom-based learning with practical demonstrations and live extinguisher exercises (where appropriate), delegates will develop an understanding of fire prevention, fire classification, extinguisher selection, safe firefighting techniques and emergency procedures. The course is suitable for employees who may be required to respond to small fires during the initial stages of an emergency, where it is safe to do so.

Training is delivered in line with the UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard, ensuring a structured, competence-based approach that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application relevant to the workplace.

Assessment is conducted against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Accredited Certificate, demonstrating that they have successfully achieved the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UKRS Course Standard.

This course provides awareness and practical instruction in the safe selection and use of portable fire extinguishers. Delegates should only attempt to tackle a fire where it is safe to do so, they have received appropriate training, and their workplace emergency procedures permit such action.
