The Health and Safety Update for Owners and Managers course provides business owners, directors and managers with the opportunity to refresh and update their knowledge of health and safety legislation, management responsibilities and current best practice, enabling them to effectively fulfil their legal duties and promote a positive safety culture within their organisation.

Combining tutor-led learning with practical examples, case studies and workplace discussions, delegates will review key health and safety principles, recent legislative developments, risk management strategies and employer responsibilities. The course supports those with responsibility for managing people, premises and workplace safety by reinforcing effective leadership and continual improvement in health and safety performance.

Training is delivered in line with the UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard, ensuring a structured, competence-based approach that supports effective health and safety management across a wide range of industries.

Assessment

Delegates are assessed throughout the course through instructor questioning, participation in practical discussions and knowledge-based assessment to confirm their understanding of health and safety management principles and legal responsibilities. Assessment is conducted against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard.


Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Accredited Certificate, demonstrating that they have successfully refreshed their knowledge and achieved the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UKRS Course Standard.

This course is intended as an update for owners and managers with existing health and safety responsibilities. It supports the ongoing development of effective health and safety leadership but does not replace role-specific or industry-specific training where additional competence is required.


Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, although delegates are expected to have management responsibilities or an existing understanding of workplace health and safety. Delegates should possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and assessment.

Course duration will vary depending on organisational requirements, the number of delegates attending and the scope of topics being reviewed. Training is designed to refresh existing knowledge, reinforce legal responsibilities and support continual improvement in workplace health and safety management.
