Description

This course is designed for individuals working in office environments who require an understanding of common workplace hazards, their health and safety responsibilities and the actions required to reduce risks and respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies. The course introduces common office hazards, including slips, trips and falls, ergonomic hazards, manual handling activities, hazardous substances, electrical equipment, biological hazards and inappropriate workplace behaviour. Learners consider how hazards can be identified and controlled and the importance of taking appropriate action where unsafe conditions or practices are identified. Learners explore basic workstation ergonomics, including the adjustment and positioning of chairs, monitors, keyboards and other equipment, appropriate work surface layout, laptop use, posture variation and regular breaks. The course also introduces safe manual handling principles, electrical safety, chemical safety and workplace hygiene. The course considers psychosocial and behavioural risks, including stress, discrimination, harassment and bullying, together with appropriate routes for raising or reporting concerns. Learners also develop an understanding of hazard and incident reporting, including the importance of reporting injuries, illnesses, property or environmental damage and near misses. Finally, the course introduces workplace emergency arrangements, including understanding emergency information, responding to evacuation instructions, using designated escape routes, proceeding to assembly areas and accessing first aid following workplace injury or illness. This eLearning course provides general office health and safety awareness and does not replace workplace-specific induction, risk assessment, emergency instruction or task-specific practical training where these are required.
