Key elements of this course will consist of: Implications of greenhouse gas emissions in terms of climate change and as a means to add value through product differentiation; Description of main gases and their sources on farm; Calculation of a farm specific carbon footprint for those attending the training; Examination and discussion of how emissions may be reduced through: Improving supply chain efficiency; Reduction in waste; Use of renewable energy; Maintenance of the existing environment; Creation of new habitat; Reduction in food miles to benefit the local community.
