Description
The Manual Handling course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely carry out manual handling activities in accordance with current health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
Combining classroom-based learning with practical demonstrations and workplace scenarios, delegates will develop an understanding of manual handling hazards, risk assessment principles, safe lifting techniques and methods for reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. The course promotes safe working practices and helps delegates apply manual handling principles to a wide range of workplace tasks.
This course can contribute 3.5 hours of Driver CPC Periodic Training for eligible vocational licence holders. Delegates wishing to claim Driver CPC hours must notify us at the time of booking and provide their driving licence details prior to the course.
Training is delivered in line with the UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard, ensuring a structured, competence-based approach that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application relevant to the workplace.

Practical Training
- Assessing manual handling tasks before lifting.
- Applying safe lifting and lowering techniques.
- Carrying, pushing and pulling loads safely.
- Using appropriate manual handling aids.
- Demonstrating team lifting techniques.
- Applying manual handling principles to realistic workplace scenarios.
Assessment
Delegates are assessed throughout the course through practical observation, instructor questioning and knowledge-based assessment to confirm their understanding of manual handling principles and practical techniques. Assessment is conducted against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Accredited Certificate, demonstrating that they have successfully achieved the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UKRS Course Standard.
This course provides delegates with the knowledge and practical techniques required to reduce the risk of injury during manual handling activities. Employers remain responsible for carrying out suitable and sufficient manual handling risk assessments and implementing appropriate control measures within the workplace.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Delegates should be physically capable of participating in practical manual handling activities and possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and assessment.
Course Duration
Course duration will vary depending on organisational requirements, the number of delegates attending and the range of manual handling activities being undertaken. Training is designed to provide delegates with the knowledge and practical competence required to safely undertake manual handling tasks whilst reducing the risk of injury to themselves and others.
This course may be approved for 3.5 hours of Driver CPC Periodic Training, subject to eligibility and successful completion of the required training.
