The PASC: Potato Planter (Pesticides Special Category) course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely apply pesticides using multi-modal applicators fitted to potato planters or other cultivation machinery.

The course covers pesticide application systems that may apply different pesticide formulations as part of the planting or cultivation operation, including liquid, granular and powder products. It prepares learners for the relevant Pesticides Special Category (PASC) assessment.

The existing TTAW course specifically covers multi-modal applicators mounted onto a potato planter or other cultivation machine and includes the application of products such as Amistar, granules and powders.

• Calculating pesticide requirements for the area to be treated.
• Loading and filling application equipment safely.

• Managing risks to the operator, other people and the environment.
• Cleaning, maintaining and storing pesticide application equipment appropriately after use.
• The practical skills and knowledge required in preparation for the relevant PASC assessment.

Course Delivery

This course is delivered through face-to-face theory and practical training.

Learners will undertake practical activities using an appropriately equipped potato planter or other relevant cultivation machine to develop the knowledge and skills required for safe pesticide application and prepare for the separate assessment.

Assessment

The training course itself does not provide the pesticide application qualification or certificate of competence.

Following the training, learners must successfully complete the relevant Pesticides Special Category (PASC) assessment.

The assessment is arranged separately through UK Rural Skills Ltd, an approved City & Guilds testing centre (Centre Number: 075034) and is subject to an additional assessment fee.

The assessment does not take place on the same day as the training. Once the assessment application and payment have been received, an assessor will contact the candidate to arrange the assessment for a separate date. Assessor availability can vary, so candidates are encouraged to submit their application and payment as early as possible.

Certification

Successful completion of the separate assessment leads to the relevant certification for the Pesticides Special Category (PASC) application method assessed.

Completion of the training course alone does not constitute achievement of the pesticide application qualification or certificate of competence.

Entry Requirements

Learners must hold the appropriate PA1 pesticide foundation qualification before undertaking the pesticide application assessment.

Learners must also be competent in the safe operation of the potato planter or cultivation machinery used during the practical training.

Course Duration

Typically 1 day, although training duration may vary depending on learner experience, numbers and the pesticide application systems being covered.

The PASC assessment is separate from the training and will take place on a separately arranged date.
