Description
This training course aims to give trainees the knowledge, understanding and basic skills required for the safe operation of rigid shunter vehicles. It introduces trainees to manoeuvring the vehicle in forward and reverse, coupling and uncoupling trailers, positioning vehicles accurately on loading bays, and operating safely within yard and site environments. Trainees will cover daily pre-use checks, safe coupling procedures, braking systems, and the hazards and risks associated with shunting operations, including restricted visibility, reversing, and working around pedestrians and other vehicles. The course also includes safe systems of work, effective communication, and compliance with relevant health and safety legislation. The length of training may vary depending on the objectives covered, the ratio of trainee to instructor, and the ability and previous experience of the trainees. The delivery of training includes a combination of theoretical instruction and practical exercises.
