Description
The Stock Picker SP1 course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely inspect, operate and manoeuvre stock pickers within the AITT SP1 category, in accordance with current health and safety legislation, recognised industry best practice and the relevant AITT operator training standard.
Combining theoretical instruction with practical operator training, delegates will develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to carry out pre-use inspections, safely manoeuvre and position the machine, operate the elevating platform, undertake stock picking and replenishment activities at height and complete routine operator checks whilst minimising risks to themselves, pedestrians, other personnel, goods and property.
Training is delivered in accordance with the relevant AITT operator training category, ensuring a structured, competence-based programme combining theoretical knowledge with practical workplace application. Training may be adapted according to the delegate's previous experience and training needs.

Practical Training
- Carrying out pre-use inspections and functional checks.
- Familiarisation with machine controls and operating functions.
- Safe access to and exit from the operator position.
- Starting, stopping and manoeuvring safely.
- Manoeuvring forwards, in reverse and through confined areas.
- Safely raising and lowering the operator platform.
- Positioning the machine correctly for stock picking activities.
- Undertaking stock picking and replenishment activities at height.
- Handling and positioning goods safely.
- Maintaining safe observation and clearance from surrounding hazards.
- Applying safe operating techniques around pedestrians and workplace traffic.
- Demonstrating emergency lowering procedures where applicable.
- Parking, shutdown and post-use procedures.
Assessment
Delegates are assessed through theoretical knowledge testing and practical operator assessment to confirm that they have achieved the knowledge, understanding and practical competence required to safely operate an SP1 Stock Picker.
Assessment is conducted in accordance with the relevant AITT operator training standard.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the training and associated assessment, delegates will receive an AITT Certificate of Basic Operator Training for the relevant SP1 Stock Picker category.
Entry Requirements
No previous stock picker operating experience is required for novice training.
Where training is being undertaken by an experienced or previously trained operator, the appropriate programme will be determined according to their existing experience and previous certification.
Delegates should be physically capable of safely operating the equipment and undertaking the associated work at height activities, and possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and assessment.
Course Duration
Course duration will vary depending on delegates' previous experience, the number of delegates attending and the training needs identified.
Sufficient time will be allowed for theoretical instruction, practical operator training and assessment, with the duration and delegate ratios determined in accordance with the relevant AITT operator training standard.
