Description
This course is designed for individuals involved in the loading, transport or management of heavy vehicles who require an understanding of vehicle weight limits, load planning and their responsibilities for preventing overloaded vehicles from entering the road network. The course introduces relevant vehicle weight requirements and considers the safety, operational and infrastructure risks associated with overloaded vehicles. Learners explore the responsibilities of consignors, loaders, operators, drivers and consignees and the importance of ensuring vehicles and loads comply with applicable weight and axle limits. Learners develop an understanding of vehicle selection, load planning and positioning, Verified Gross Mass (VGM) declarations, Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM), Gross Train Weight (GTW), individual axle weights and methods for determining vehicle and load weight. The course also considers safe loading and unloading arrangements and appropriate action where an overweight or non-compliant load is identified. Overall, the course aims to provide learners with the knowledge required to manage vehicle and load weights appropriately, prevent overloading and support safe and compliant road transport operations.
