Description

This course is designed for individuals who are responsible for taking or preparing meeting minutes and want to develop their ability to produce accurate, clear and professional records of workplace meetings. The course introduces the purpose and importance of meeting minutes and considers the information that should be recorded, including attendees, agenda items, key discussion points, decisions, agreed actions, responsibilities and completion dates. Learners consider the distinction between minutes and a verbatim transcript and the importance of focusing on decisions, actions and information required for future reference. Learners explore how to prepare effectively for taking minutes, including reviewing previous minutes, understanding the meeting agenda and clarifying expectations with the meeting chair. The course provides practical guidance on listening and note-taking, summarising key points, using abbreviations and accurately recording decisions and agreed actions. The course also considers how minutes should be edited and proofread to ensure they are objective, consistent and professionally written. Learners explore appropriate distribution arrangements, including obtaining approval from the chair or relevant speakers before circulating the final record. Overall, the course aims to provide learners with the knowledge and practical techniques required to prepare, record, review and distribute accurate and effective meeting minutes.
