Description
This course is designed for employees and managers who require an understanding of workplace diversity and the role individuals can play in creating an inclusive, respectful and supportive working environment. The course introduces the principles of diversity and explores the different factors that contribute to individual identity and experience, including culture, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, mental health, lifestyles and values. It considers the benefits and challenges of a diverse workforce and the importance of recognising and respecting different backgrounds, perspectives and ways of working. The course also explores individual and management responsibilities for supporting diversity and inclusion, including recognising and challenging unconscious bias, avoiding stereotypes, communicating respectfully and using active listening. Learners consider practical approaches for working effectively within diverse and multicultural teams, managing differences and reducing the potential for misunderstanding, miscommunication and conflict in the workplace.
