Description

This course is designed for managers, supervisors and other individuals who are involved in conducting workplace interviews and wish to develop the skills and techniques required to plan, structure and conduct interviews effectively. The course introduces the purpose of effective interviewing and considers the importance of appropriate preparation before an interview takes place. Learners consider establishing interview objectives, reviewing relevant information, preparing suitable questions and creating an appropriate environment in which candidates or interviewees can communicate effectively. The course explores practical interviewing techniques, including building rapport, using open and closed questions appropriately, probing for further information, active listening and recognising relevant verbal and non-verbal communication. Learners consider how to maintain control and structure throughout an interview while providing the interviewee with sufficient opportunity to explain their experience, knowledge and responses. The course also considers objective evaluation and effective decision-making following an interview, including recording relevant information, avoiding inappropriate assumptions or bias and comparing responses against established requirements or criteria. Learners develop an understanding of professional interview conduct, appropriate communication and the importance of maintaining confidentiality throughout the interview process.
