Description
This course is designed for healthcare workers and other individuals involved in invasive procedures who require an understanding of the Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT) and the infection prevention measures used to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infection. The course introduces ANTT and explains the importance of maintaining asepsis during procedures involving instruments or equipment entering a patient`s body. Learners consider key parts and key sites, the principles of non-touch technique and the circumstances in which standard or surgical ANTT precautions should be applied. The course explores the stages involved in implementing ANTT, including assessing and managing environmental risks, performing appropriate hand hygiene, selecting and using gloves and other personal protective equipment (PPE), establishing general or critical aseptic fields and protecting key parts using micro critical aseptic fields. Learners also consider the preparation of procedural equipment and the patient before an invasive procedure is undertaken. The course reinforces safe practices during invasive procedures, including maintaining sterility, preventing contact between sterile and non-sterile items, protecting key sites, appropriate handling and disposal of sharps and completing procedures in an efficient, logical and safe order. It also considers appropriate cleaning and infection control measures following completion of the procedure. This eLearning course provides underpinning knowledge and awareness of ANTT and infection prevention principles. It does not provide practical competency assessment or authorisation to undertake cannulation, venepuncture, injections, catheterisation, wound care, surgery or any other invasive clinical procedure.
