Description


This course is designed for construction workers who undertake or may be exposed to manual handling activities and require an awareness of the hazards, risks and safe working principles associated with manual handling in a construction environment. The course introduces manual handling activities and the types of musculoskeletal injury that may result from hazardous or poorly managed tasks. Learners consider relevant health and safety responsibilities and the risk management process, including identifying hazardous manual handling activities, assessing risk using the TILE principles and implementing appropriate control measures. The course also considers the role of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for higher-risk construction activities. Learners explore practical measures for reducing manual handling risks on construction sites, including eliminating or modifying tasks, using mechanical handling aids, team lifting, safe lifting and carrying principles, appropriate storage, good housekeeping and maintaining suitable working postures. The course also considers repetitive activities, the handling and selection of tools and equipment and exposure to vibration. This eLearning course provides construction-specific awareness and underpinning knowledge of manual handling safety. It does not replace task-specific instruction, practical manual handling training, risk assessment or competency assessment where these are required.
