The Paediatric First Aid course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to respond confidently and effectively to emergency situations involving infants and children in accordance with current first aid guidance and recognised industry standards.

Combining tutor-led learning with realistic practical exercises, delegates will develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to assess emergency situations, provide life-saving first aid, manage a range of injuries and illnesses, and administer appropriate treatment until professional medical assistance arrives. The course is suitable for those working with or caring for infants and children, including individuals meeting first aid requirements within early years settings.

• Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), where appropriate.
• Management of unconscious casualties.
• Recognition and treatment of choking in infants and children.
• Control of severe bleeding.
• Recognition and management of shock.
• Fractures, sprains and soft tissue injuries.
• Burns, scalds and eye injuries.
• Head, spinal and other common injuries.
• Febrile seizures and other childhood medical emergencies.
• Asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes and epilepsy.
• Meningitis awareness.
• Poisoning and allergic reactions.
• Incident recording and legal responsibilities.

Practical Training

• Performing infant and child CPR.
• Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), where appropriate.
• Managing unconscious infants and children.
• Treating choking emergencies.
• Controlling severe bleeding using appropriate dressings.
• Managing fractures, burns and common childhood injuries.
• Responding to a range of paediatric emergency scenarios.
• Participating in realistic casualty simulations to reinforce practical competence.

Assessment

Delegates are assessed throughout the course through practical observation, simulated casualty scenarios and instructor questioning to confirm their knowledge, understanding and practical competence.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, delegates will receive a Paediatric First Aid Certificate issued through an approved first aid certification body.

The certificate is valid for the period specified by the issuing certification body and demonstrates that the holder has successfully completed paediatric first aid training in accordance with the applicable course requirements.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Delegates should be physically capable of participating in practical first aid activities, including kneeling on the floor to perform CPR, and possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and assessment.
