Description
This course is designed for employees and other individuals who use organisational information systems and require an understanding of the importance of effective password management and secure authentication practices. The course introduces the role passwords play in protecting organisational systems, accounts and information from unauthorised access. Learners consider the risks associated with weak, predictable, reused or inadequately protected passwords and the potential consequences of compromised login credentials for both individuals and organisations. Learners develop an understanding of the principles for creating strong passwords and the importance of managing passwords securely. The course considers appropriate practices for protecting authentication information, avoiding inappropriate password sharing and reducing the likelihood of passwords being obtained or misused by unauthorised individuals. The course reinforces individual responsibility for following organisational password and information security requirements and taking appropriate action where account credentials may have been compromised. This eLearning course provides awareness and underpinning knowledge of password security and should be supplemented by the organisation’s specific information security, password and access-control policies and procedures.
