Description
This course is designed for individuals who want to develop their understanding of depression and how to appropriately support colleagues who may be experiencing depression. The course introduces depression, its common symptoms and potential causes and considers how depression differs from temporary feelings of sadness or low mood. Learners develop an awareness of how depression can affect an individual and the importance of providing support without attempting to diagnose their condition. Learners explore how to approach and communicate with someone who appears to be struggling, including listening without judgement, respecting their wishes and encouraging appropriate professional support. The course also considers treatment, recovery and relapse, together with recognising potential indicators of self-harm or suicidal thoughts and the importance of seeking appropriate assistance. Overall, the course aims to increase understanding of depression and provide learners with the knowledge and confidence to respond sensitively and appropriately when supporting a colleague who may be experiencing depression.
