Description
The Tractor Driving - Refresher course enables experienced tractor operators to refresh and update their knowledge and practical skills in the safe operation and routine maintenance of agricultural tractors in accordance with current industry best practice and relevant health and safety legislation.
Combining classroom-based learning with extensive practical training, delegates will revisit safe operating techniques, pre-use inspections, routine maintenance, hazard identification and safe working practices. The course reinforces correct operating procedures, provides an opportunity to review changes to legislation, industry guidance and agricultural best practice, and helps ensure continued operator competence and confidence.
Training is delivered in line with the UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard, ensuring a structured, competence-based refresher programme that reinforces theoretical knowledge and practical competence in realistic agricultural working conditions.

Practical Training
- Carrying out pre-use inspections and safety checks.
- Reviewing tractor controls and operating functions.
- Safe starting and stopping procedures.
- Driving and manoeuvring in a range of working environments.
- Reversing and positioning with accuracy.
- Operating safely with mounted and trailed implements.
- Working safely on slopes and uneven ground.
- Carrying out routine operator maintenance and cleaning.
- Safe shutdown and storage procedures.
Assessment
Delegates are assessed throughout the course through practical observation and instructor questioning to confirm their continued knowledge, understanding and practical competence. Assessment is conducted against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Course Standard.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Accredited Certificate, demonstrating that they have successfully refreshed their knowledge and achieved the learning outcomes and assessment criteria specified within the relevant UKRS Course Standard.
Entry Requirements
Delegates should have previously completed agricultural tractor operator training or be able to demonstrate equivalent practical experience. They should be physically capable of safely operating an agricultural tractor and possess a sufficient understanding of spoken and written English to fully participate in training and assessment.
Course Duration
Course duration will vary depending on delegates' previous experience, the number of delegates attending and organisational requirements. Training is designed to refresh existing knowledge, reinforce safe working practices and maintain practical competence in the safe operation and routine maintenance of agricultural tractors.
