Description

The Confined Space Entry eLearning course provides learners with an understanding of the hazards and risks associated with confined spaces and the precautions required when entry into a confined space forms part of their work.

The course explores how confined spaces can be identified, common hazards associated with entry, risk assessment and control measures, safe systems of work and the importance of appropriate planning and emergency arrangements. Learners will develop an understanding of the responsibilities associated with confined space entry and the importance of following established workplace procedures.

Who Should Attend?

  • Employees who may be required to enter or work in confined spaces.
  • Maintenance and engineering personnel.
  • Utilities and infrastructure workers.
  • Agricultural and industrial employees.
  • Construction and site personnel.
  • Managers and supervisors responsible for confined space activities.
  • Anyone requiring an understanding of confined space entry procedures and associated hazards.

What You Will Learn

  • What is meant by a confined space.
  • How confined spaces may be identified in different workplaces.
  • Common hazards associated with confined space entry.
  • Risks associated with hazardous atmospheres and reduced oxygen levels.
  • Other physical and environmental hazards that may be present.
  • The importance of risk assessment before confined space entry.
  • Control measures used to reduce risks associated with confined spaces.
  • Safe systems of work and entry procedures.
  • The purpose and importance of permits to work where required.
  • Roles and responsibilities of those involved in confined space activities.
  • The importance of atmospheric testing and monitoring where required.
  • Appropriate equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Communication and supervision during confined space activities.
  • Preventing unauthorised entry.
  • The importance of appropriate emergency and rescue arrangements.
  • Responding to changing or unsafe conditions.
  • Following workplace procedures before, during and after confined space entry.

Course Delivery

This course is delivered as self-directed eLearning through the ELMO learning platform.

Learners can work through the course at their own pace and can move backwards and forwards through the learning content as required. The course does not need to be completed in one sitting, allowing learners to leave and return to their training where necessary.

Interactive activities may be included throughout the course to reinforce key learning points.

Assessment

Knowledge and understanding are checked through online assessment activities. Depending on the course content, these may include multiple-choice questions, matching exercises, drag-and-drop activities and image-based questions.

A minimum score of 70% is required to successfully complete the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and assessment requirements, learners will receive a UK Rural Skills (UKRS) Accredited Certificate of Training.

This is an eLearning theory course and does not, on its own, provide the practical training or competence required to undertake confined space entry where task-specific practical training, equipment familiarisation or other competence requirements apply.

Course Duration

The course is self-directed and learners can progress through the content at their own pace. Completion time may therefore vary depending on the individual learner.
