Description
This course is designed for employees who drive as part of their work and require an understanding of the health and safety risks associated with driving and their responsibilities for driving legally, safely and courteously. The course covers fitness to drive, vehicle roadworthiness and pre-driving checks, correct vehicle set-up and effective journey planning. It considers common driving hazards and safe driving practices, including speed, following distances, overtaking, reversing and parking, mobile phone use, alcohol and drugs, driver fatigue and the importance of remaining alert and managing distractions. The course also considers driving in higher-risk situations, including poor weather, flooding, ice, reduced visibility, night driving and rural roads, together with sharing the road safely with pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, agricultural machinery and large vehicles. Learners are also introduced to appropriate actions following a road traffic accident and the importance of complying with organisational safe-driving policies and procedures.
