Description
This course is designed for employees who undertake, support or work around hot work activities and require an understanding of the hazards, control measures and safe working practices associated with hot work. The course introduces common hot work activities, including welding, soldering, thermal cutting and grinding, and considers hazards such as fire and explosion, excessive heat, airborne contaminants, radiation, electricity, asphyxiation and noise. It explores the increased risks associated with conducting hot work in confined spaces and the importance of assessing and controlling risks before work begins. The course also considers the hierarchy of controls, Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), Hot Work Permit arrangements, Fire Watch responsibilities, ventilation, personal protective equipment (PPE), housekeeping and health surveillance. Learners develop an awareness of their responsibilities before, during and following hot work and the appropriate actions to take in the event of a fire, explosion, medical emergency, incident or near miss. This eLearning course provides hot work safety awareness only and does not demonstrate competence to undertake welding, cutting, grinding, soldering or other hot work activities. Appropriate practical training, competency assessment and employer authorisation must be provided where required.
