Description

This course is designed for employees, managers and other workplace personnel who require an understanding of psychosocial hazards, how they may affect health and wellbeing, and the measures that can be taken to prevent and manage psychosocial risks within the workplace. The course introduces psychosocial hazards and explores common workplace factors that may contribute to psychological harm, including excessive workloads, limited job control, inadequate organisational support, poor workplace relationships, bullying and harassment, unclear roles and poorly managed organisational change. Learners consider emotional, cognitive, behavioural and physical indicators that may suggest an individual is experiencing work-related psychosocial difficulties. Learners explore approaches to preventing and managing psychosocial hazards, including effective leadership and organisational culture, appropriate job design, workplace policies and procedures, reporting arrangements and psychosocial risk assessment. The course also considers employer responsibilities and the importance of identifying hazards, assessing risks, implementing appropriate controls and monitoring and reviewing their effectiveness. The course further considers the development of a supportive workplace culture through open communication, work-life balance, recognition, professional development and access to appropriate support systems. Learners are introduced to the roles of managers, HR, Employee Assistance Programmes, peer support, health and wellbeing initiatives and workplace consultation in supporting employees and reducing psychosocial risks. This eLearning course provides awareness and underpinning knowledge of psychosocial hazards and their management. It does not replace organisation-specific risk assessment, policies and procedures, professional mental health support or competent health and safety advice where these are required.
